ISB students achieve prestigious Duke of Edinburgh International Awards

Thursday, 17th April 2025 – International School Brunei (ISB) proudly celebrated the outstanding achievements of its students who attained the prestigious Gold, Silver, and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) International Awards in the 2024/2025 academic year during the DofE International Award Ceremony at the ISB Theatre on Tuesday, 15th April 2025.

The ceremony recognised the dedication and excellence of the DofE International Award winners, and saw the students receive certificates signifying their success. The event was attended by Dr. Peter Jones, Head of ISB Secondary; Ms. Ai Ling Wong, Deputy Head of ISB Secondary; as well as parents and family members of the awarded students.

For the school’s current academic year, a total of 54 students from ISB Secondary and ISB’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme have achieved this important accolade, with 4 Gold, 13 Silver, and 37 Bronze awards attained.

All levels of the DofE International Award require participants to engage in four main sections of volunteering, skills, physical recreation, and an expedition called the Adventurous Journey. The Gold level of the award also includes a Residential section, where participants spend five days and four nights in a residential setting working towards a common purpose with new people.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Dr. Peter Jones, Head of ISB Secondary, said, “The DofE International Award is truly a prestigious award like no other. It links closely with our school ethos and our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. It inspires the mind, shapes values, and builds futures. Through the award, students develop confidence, develop social and leadership skills, become more resilient and adaptable, organised, and resourceful. In addition, they learn more about themselves and their own unlimited capabilities as well as develop new relationships and friendships with others.”

“To our remarkable DofE International Award winners, congratulations. You embody the very spirit of this award: a spirit of service, a drive for personal challenge, and a thirst for adventure. You’ve learned to push your boundaries, to give back to your community, and to discover your own strength. Carry that spirit with you, and you’ll find there’s no limit to what you can achieve,” added Dr. Jones.

ISB is proud to have delivered the DofE International Award since 2015. Widely recognised as the world’s leading youth achievement award, the DofE International Award is a gold standard in youth development, which challenges young people to dream big, celebrate their achievements, and make a difference in the world.
